Heavy rain and severe gales across central and southern New Zealand now
An active front, bringing strong west to northwest winds and periods of
heavy rain, now lies over the upper North Island and is forecast to move
away to the east today. Heavy rain and gale force winds associated with
this front has now eased.
Heavy rain in Fiordland north of Doubtful Sound and Westland south of
Otira, also severe gale westerlies in Fiordland, Southland and Clutha
has eased. Severe gale north to northwest winds in Canterbury High
Country, Marlborough, Wellington and southern Wairarapa have also
eased. The Warnings for these areas is now lifted.
Please note, another period of heavy rain is expected about the ranges
of Westland and Buller form this (Sunday) afternoon to Monday morning
and a new Watch has been issue.
Warnings no longer in force
Heavy rain warning lifted for: Fiordland north of Doubtful Sound and
Westland south of Otira: Heavy rain has eased and the Warning is lifted.
However, another period of heavy rain is expected in Westland from
midday today (Sunday) to early Monday morning and a Watch for the
possibility of warning amounts of rain is issued.
Strong wind warning lifted for: Marlborough, Wellington and
Wairarapa south of Masterton: Severe north to northwest gales have now
eased and the Warning is lifted.
Strong wind warning lifted for: Canterbury High Country: Severe gale
northwesterlies have now eased and the Warning is lifted.
Strong wind warning lifted for: Fiordland: Severe gale westerlies
have now eased and the Warning is lifted.
Strong wind warning lifted for: Southland and Clutha: Severe gale
westerlies have now eased and the Warning is lifted.
No further severe weather warnings will be issued
